Operations

Colcom Foods

Colcom Foods’ operations are headquartered at 1/3 Coventry Road, Workington, Harare. This integrated site brings together every stage of production, from abattoir and deboning plant to a state-of-the-art processing factory producing more than 160 lines of fresh and processed pork products. The facility also houses the automated Colcom pie bakery, supported by critical infrastructure including advanced refrigeration systems, steam generation, compressed air, electrical power, and purified water.

Colcom Foods continues to invest significantly in upgrading factory equipment, refrigeration systems, and other key facilities. These investments ensure consistent product quality, operational efficiency, and the delivery of world-class standards across all business units.

The Harare site hosts both the Colcom Shop and the Colcom Express Shop, offering wholesale services directly to the public. Beyond Harare, Colcom operates a sales depot in Mutare and three retail outlets in Mbare, Norton, and Ruwa. Distribution is managed from the Harare factory through Colcom’s own logistics fleet, supported by a strategic distributor in Bulawayo who also services Masvingo, Gweru, and Victoria Falls.

In 2025, Colcom completed a full renovation of its Mutare shop, transforming it into a modern retail space. The redesigned outlet features a contemporary layout, refreshed branding, and a fully equipped butchery offering fresh, customised cuts. New cold chain technology ensures precise temperature control, protecting product safety, freshness, and flavour.

To align with global best practice, Colcom commissioned a state-of-the-art thermoforming machine at its processing facility in 2025. A first in Zimbabwe, this packaging innovation delivers tamper-proof, tightly sealed packs that extend product shelf life, are easy to handle, and safeguard against counterfeiting. The thermoformed packs, used for pork sausages and boerewors, provide consumers with greater confidence and guarantee the authenticity of Colcom products.

In 2025, the Colcom Foods Abattoir successfully maintained and upgraded to FSSC 22000 Version 6 certification, a globally recognised standard that reflects Colcom’s unwavering commitment to food safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

Complementing this achievement, the Colcom Foods Factory launched an enhanced workplace hygiene programme, which includes strict sanitation protocols across all workstations, mandatory handwashing procedures for all staff, and strategically placed sanitising stations throughout the facility. These initiatives reinforce Colcom’s reputation as a trusted leader in safe, high-quality food manufacturing.

Colcom is progressing with a structured three-phase expansion of its pie facility to increase production capacity and introduce new product lines. Upgrades to the meat processing facility include the installation of a new polony delinking machine, boosting efficiency in packaging operations.

As part of its long-term sustainability strategy, Colcom is advancing two major solar projects designed to reduce dependence on grid electricity and lower energy costs. In addition, a new “smart” automated distribution board has been installed to enhance equipment protection, minimise downtime, and ensure uninterrupted production performance.
